Position Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent will report to the Senior Assistant Superintendent / Superintendent. He/She will be an integral part of the agronomy team, responsible for assisting in the daily maintenance, operation, and overall conditioning of the golf course. This role requires a hands-on leader who can motivate staff, execute best practices, and maintain the high agronomic standards that Old Barnwell is known for. Reports To: Senior Assistant Superintendent / Superintendent
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of all golf course maintenance activities.
- Supervise, train, and motivate seasonal and full-time staff to ensure daily objectives are met.
- Maintain detailed records of chemical and fertilizer applications, irrigation schedules, and cultural practices.
- Monitor turf health and recommend adjustments to maintenance programs based on conditions.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain irrigation systems.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure equipment is used and maintained properly.
- Support special projects, including course renovations, drainage improvements, and landscape enhancements.
- Communicate effectively with other departments to support overall club operations.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of golf course maintenance experience, with supervisory experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass maintenance practices, irrigation systems, and pest management.
- Possess or able to obtain South Carolina pesticide applicator license within 90 days.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and adapt to changing priorities.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
