About the Club

Headwaters Golf Club is a private club located in the mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina. Designed by world renowned architect, Tom Fazio, our 9-hole par 3 course is consistently recognized as one of the top short courses in the nation. The property features over three acres of world-class gardens and landscape areas, a premier practice facility, and a standard of excellence in every detail. Our membership expects the highest level of conditioning and presentation across the entire property. 

Position Overview

The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of daily course maintenance, agronomic planning, and property presentation. 

This is a year-round, full-time position with hands-on involvement in every facet of the operation — from managing cool season putting surfaces, to fertilizer pesticide applications, to maintaining garden areas, and assisting with infrastructure and capital improvement projects. The course operates on a six-month playing season, with the off-season dedicated to planning, in-house projects, equipment work, and professional development.

Qualifications Required: 

- Degree in Turfgrass Science, Plant Science, Horticulture, or a closely related field 

- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and extended periods of walking or standing, and to work outdoors in varying conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather 

- Valid driver’s license - Ability to obtain a North Carolina pesticide applicator’s license Preferred:

- 2+ years of experience in golf course maintenance, preferably at a private or high-end facility 

- Experience with cool season turfgrass management, particularly bentgrass putting surfaces 

- Familiarity with moisture management is a plus 

-  Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain high standards in a demanding environment.
