Paschal Golf Club is a nine-hole course located in Central North Carolina in the heart of the Research Triangle. The golf course has a rich heritage dating back to 1917. This is the course Arnold Palmer played his college golf when Wake Forest was located in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Description Overview:
The golf superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, management, and agronomic planning of Paschal Golf Course and practice facilities.
This is a “hands-on leadership role, requiring daily involvement in maintaining turf grass health, managing the irrigation system, and repairing equipment. Paschal Golf Club requires a versatile approach where the superintendent acts as both manager and field operator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Turf Management: Develop and implement agronomic programs, including fertilization schedules, turf health monitoring, aeration, seeding, sodding, and topdressing.
- Daily Maintenance: Supervise and participate in daily maintenance tasks such as mowing (greens, tees, fairways, roughs), bunker preparation, tee marker placement, and pin positions.
- Irrigation/Water Management: Operation and maintain a functioning irrigation system, monitor soil moisture levels, and adjust irrigation schedules to ensure optimal turf health while conserving water.
- Pest and Disease Control: Execute integrated pest management strategies to manage weeds, insects, and diseases, prioritizing environmentally conscious methods.
- Staff Leadership: Recruit, train, supervise, and develop a small team of maintenance staff and seasonal workers.
- Equipment Upkeep: Supervise the preventative maintenance and repair of all course equipment, including mowers, tractor, and utility vehicles.
- Budgeting & Reporting: Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets, maintain accurate records of labor, inventory, and chemical applications.
- Communication: Coordinate with the president and board members on course conditions, upcoming projects, and long-range improvements.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree or certificate in turfgrass management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience (3-5 years) in golf course maintenance is preferred with experience in a supervisory or assistant role.
- Licensing: Must possess or be able to obtain a state-mandated pesticide applicator license.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, machinery, and irrigation systems. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills are crucial.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods over uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (fertilizer bags, chemical jugs, etc.) frequently.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions (heat, cold, rain).

Note: As this is a hands-on position, it is highly desirable that the candidate has a passion for the game of golf and the ability to maintain the course to high standards with limited resources.
