Situated on the shore of Lake Marion (across the lake is the Santee National Wildlife Refuge) and next to I-95, if you like to hunt and/or fish this is the place for you! Director is looking for a highly motivated individual who is interested in a long term place as I am in my 29th year here and will leave in late 2027. We have opportunities for improvement and are always looking for new ways of accomplishing our tasks. Our courses consist of Mini Verde UltraDwarf Bermuda greens (which we overseed with Poa trivialis) and the remainder of the turf being 419 Tifway Bermuda. We do overseed some of our tees but most are painted as are the fairways. We do have a 35,000 square foot TifEagle green at our Lake Marion Villas. We have RainBird irrigation systems. Our equipment is mostly leased and is primarily Jacobsen (reel type) and John Deere (rotary type) and our Smithco GPS sprayers. We paint using a Toro MultiPro 5700D. We're beginning to phase in autonomous mowers and there are preliminary plans for renovations to both courses in the next few years. We have a staff of 20-26 and a budget of +/-$1.5 million. We're open 364 days a year with peak season March thru May and mid September thru mid November. The Golf Course Superintendent, under the guidance of the Director of Golf Course and Grounds Maintenance, will be responsible for all aspects of our operation including, but not limited to, personnel management (hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, etc.), turf management (fertilizer and chemical applications, mowing schedule, etc.) , irrigation management (scheduling, repairs, reports, etc.), budgeting, short and long term planning, etc. This is a working superintendent position and generally speaking this person will be on a mower or a sprayer every day. Obviously, the willingness to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions, to be able to lift at least 50 pounds, ability to walk for miles (spreading fertilizer or seed), or to sit on a mower/sprayer or even an office chair for hours are all a part of the position.
